FREDERICTON (GNB) – Lt.-Gov. Jocelyne Roy Vienneau and Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet will lead a delegation to China Jan. 14-20.

The mission aims to strengthen ties with that country and to build on recent trade missions in the region.

“New Brunswick has a reputation for being inclusive, innovative and inspiring,” said Roy Vienneau. “This visit is an opportunity to deepen the relationship we have.”

Representatives of 17 New Brunswick companies and the University of New Brunswick are scheduled to participate in events with Opportunities NB and will work to further develop their business activities in China.

“This is the largest multi-sector trade mission New Brunswick has ever undertaken,” said Doucet, who is also the minister of energy and resource development. “The relationship between China and New Brunswick is one that we have been working to foster and grow. New export markets provide our businesses with opportunities to thrive and grow. The resulting economic activity in New Brunswick helps us pay for necessary services like education and health care.”

While in China, members of the delegation will also promote New Brunswick as a tourism destination to travel corporations and media. This year, 2018, has been designated as the Canada-China Year of Tourism.

The delegation is also expected to sign a twinning agreement with Hebei. The province, which has a population of 73 million people, will be designated as a special economic zone to promote development in that region.

In addition, Doucet and Roy Vienneau are scheduled to participate in the official opening of a new school in Fuzhou.

“Consumers in China want high-quality, healthy products and the best services for themselves and their children,” said Doucet. “New Brunswick businesses have the ability and the experience to deliver the best to them.”
