FREDERICTON (CNB) – Finance Minister Blaine Higgs will hold a series of pre-budget consultations with the public and stakeholders starting Monday, Jan. 16.

The intent is ensure the provincial government’s 2012-13 budget reflects the input of New Brunswickers.

The meetings will be held in 10 communities. Times and locations are posted on the provincial government’s Taxpayers FIRST website.

"Last year's provincial budget started the provincial government in a new direction toward fiscal responsibility and accountability," said Higgs, "Now, we want to ask New Brunswickers how we can work together to build on that early progress while, at the same time, help them care for their families."

Higgs highlighted the Taxpayers FIRST website, which was a commitment in the document Putting New Brunswick First. It is an interactive tool to involve the public in the consultation process.

"This year, we have a new website to complement our public meetings and which will provide a direct channel for New Brunswickers to communicate with their government and also to educate themselves about our fiscal challenges," said Higgs.
