FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $7.6 million to help more students access post-secondary education.

The funds will be set aside to adjust the maximum amounts available for eligible students under the New Brunswick Student Loan and the New Brunswick Bursary.

The maximum weekly amounts under the Post-Secondary Student Financial Assistance Act are being increased from $140 to $200 for the loan and from $130 to $160 for the bursary.

“We recognize the value and contributions that students bring to our province,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Arlene Dunn. “Having financial support can be a motivation for students to make it through their higher education and I am pleased that this will assist many students in that regard.”

Last year, more than 13,000 students received the New Brunswick Loan and more than 4,000 received the New Brunswick Bursary.

Provincial funding is available for full-time studies and is based on a variety of factors, including family size and income. Everyone is eligible to apply, regardless of income levels. The application for New Brunswick Student Financial Assistance is available online.

Monthly virtual question and answer sessions are available to anyone who is looking for more information. Students or parents can register for a session online.
