MONCTON (GNB) – Gordon Hall and Ocean Hall, two new 60-bed nursing homes operated by Shannex, officially opened today in Moncton. Residents first moved into Gordon Hall in June and others will begin moving into Ocean Hall as of next week.

“Expanding the number of nursing home beds is one of the many ways we are ensuring New Brunswick seniors can age in comfort and with dignity,” said Kathy Bockus, minister responsible for Seniors. “We are so pleased this expansion is continuing. Shannex is an important partner in our constant efforts to provide better services to seniors.”

Gordon Hall and Ocean Hall are adjacent to each other and connected by an indoor Main Street. This concept promotes independence and a sense of community by allowing residents to enjoy the experience of spending time on a small-town street complete with a hair salon, café, town hall and a multi-purpose room that will serve as a chapel, theatre and community gathering space.

The indoor Main Street is a concept that is now in place at a number of Shannex nursing homes.

“We are honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility to create warm, welcoming and caring homes for New Brunswick seniors,” said Jason Shannon, Shannex president. “Those who have settled into Gordon Hall and Ocean Hall will be cared for by compassionate and professional team members and receive the support they need to live fully.”

With these new establishments, there are currently 74 nursing homes in the province providing 5,133 beds. The provincial government plans to increase this to 81 licensed nursing homes, adding 520 beds to the system.
