SHIPPAGAN (GNB) – A seal pup has been born at the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre.
"The birth of a seal in captivity is rare in New Brunswick," said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp.
The event coincided with a visit by well-known actor Normand D'Amour during the filming of an episode of the television show La petite séduction in Shippagan. The seal has been named "D'Amour" in honour of the actor.
Part of the episode will focus on the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre. The show will air on Radio-Canada at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25.
"The members of the audience for this prime-time show are potential clients for the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre," Olscamp said.
This year marks the tourist attraction's 30th anniversary. Everything is in place to celebrate this milestone in a major way.
Again this year, visitors will enjoy the newly renovated lobby and the marine biology discovery area, Hydrosphere. The main purpose of this recreational/educational space, with content based on the Department of Education and Early Child Development school curriculum, is to inform young visitors about the characteristics of marine organisms.
The 2012 season will also feature activity days, such as Fisheries and Aquaculture Day on Friday, July 20, and Kids' Day on Saturday, Aug. 18.
The New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Sept. 29.
