FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government will provide $50,000 this fiscal year to help improve the condition of roads used for agricultural purposes in New Brunswick.

Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp made the announcement today, on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams, during the annual meeting of the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick.

“This grading project is a major step forward in improving the roads used by farmers to transport their produce to markets,” Olscamp said. “We are pleased to support and work with the agricultural industry to enhance business opportunities for farmers and help improve the economy.”

About 40 agricultural resource roads will be graded in 2013-14. The Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick provided the provincial government with a list of roads in need of an upgrade.

The work will be carried out by crews and equipment from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure during the upcoming summer construction season.
