TORONTO (GNB) – A New Brunswick seafood company has won an international innovation award for its Smoked Atlantic Salmon Pâté.

A Acadien Atlantic (AAA) from Caraquet was awarded the Salon International de l'Alimentation 2013 Grand Prize on April 30 in Toronto. The company was one of 10 finalists from around the world.

“This is exciting news,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp. “Innovation is key to our Economic Development Action Plan and A Acadien Atlantic is an example of what New Brunswick companies can do on the international stage.”

The company has been nominated for two awards so far this year. Their pâté is also a finalist for the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards from the Retail Council of Canada, which will be awarded in June.

“We are very proud to have won the Salon International de l'Alimentation 2013 Grand Prize,” said company owner Anick Lanteigne. “This prize recognizes the year-long effort we put into this product. It also provides our company with greater visibility within the industry.”

The company developed the creamy smoked salmon pâté in 2012. The company describes it as “a delicious blend of more than 65 per cent of our two kinds of smoked salmon, hot smoked and cold smoked, mixed with a variety of ingredients and spices specially selected to bring out the unique and exquisite taste of our smoked salmon.”

Two other New Brunswick companies also participated at the trade show in Toronto, NorthTaste All-Natural Seafood Flavorings from Anse-Bleue and Fancy Pokket from Moncton.
