MONCTON (CNB) – Sections of the Lewisville Road will be widened and repaved, and the Petitcodiac causeway will be resurfaced. Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams made the announcements today.

"Lewisville Road is an important link in the road infrastructure of Greater Moncton," Williams said. "The widening and repaving of this major route will improve traffic flow into and out of the city and the safety of all travellers."

Lewisville Road will be widened and repaved from the Shediac Road intersection to the Veterans Highway east bound on-ramp. The project includes the realignment of the intersection of Shediac Road with Lewisville Road. The work will be done under a City of Moncton contract cost-shared between the city and the province. The provincial contribution is estimated at $1 million.

"We are pleased to partner with the province to improve this important piece of infrastructure for the City of Moncton," said Moncton Mayor Georges LeBlanc.

Williams also announced the resurfacing of the causeway between Riverview and Moncton from the Route 112 / Route 114 interchange ramps and loops.

"The Petitcodiac causeway has sustained significant deterioration of its driving surface during the past few winters, and its resurfacing is a priority for our department this year," Williams said. "We are happy to ensure that this major artery is rehabilitated so it can continue to serve the people of Riverview and Moncton."

The estimated cost of this project is $610,000.

"We are pleased to learn that the province will be investing in the upgrading and resurfacing of the causeway, which is a vital link between the City of Moncton and the Town of Riverview," said Riverview Mayor Clarence Sweetland.
