ROTHESAY (GNB) – The newly renovated and expanded Kennebecasis Park Elementary School officially opened today in Rothesay.

“Our government is committed to keeping New Brunswick’s public education infrastructure strong,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Marie-Claude Blais. “As a result of our $6.5-million investment in upgrades to Kennebecasis Park Elementary School, it is now a modern, state-of-the-art facility. This school will continue to provide local students with a high-quality education in a positive and inclusive learning environment for many years to come.”

The renovation of the school included upgrades to its architectural, mechanical and electrical systems; as well as a wheelchair lift and site improvements to improve accessibility. The school was also enlarged through the construction of a 1,545-square-metre addition that features new classrooms, resource and administration spaces, and a gymnasium/ancillary space. The school now accommodates about 200 students.

“By enhancing and modernizing existing schools, the provincial government can ensure they continue to meet the needs of our communities while reducing costs,” said Health Minister Hugh Flemming. “This upgraded school is an example of how effectively and efficiently this solution works for students, their families and taxpayers.”

Flemming spoke on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams.

The school was originally constructed in 1964.
