CARAQUET (GNB) – The provincial government will invest $800,000 into municipal highway projects in Caraquet, Maisonnette and Bas-Caraquet this year through the Municipal Designated Highway program.

“Our government has made the commitment to rebuild New Brunswick and this is what we are doing on a daily basis,” said Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud. “Today these communities are receiving government support to help them improve their infrastructure. We are committed to turning around the finances of the province, while optimizing every dollar to revitalize our provincial economy.”

Robichaud spoke on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams.

Caraquet will receive $400,000 for Phase 2 of a paving project, totaling 1.7 kilometers, on boulevard St-Pierre Est, from Industrial Boulevard to Saint-Simon Road. The municipality will contribute $100,000 for a total investment of $500,000.

Maisonnette will receive $300,000 to pave one kilometer on Route 320 - Degrâce Street. In Bas-Caraquet, the province will provide $100,000 for a culvert replacement at Isabelle Creek on Saint-Paul Street.

“In addition, construction on the Caraquet bypass will continue this year, with a capital budget investment of $10.6 million,” said Robichaud. “This $45 million project is a strong commitment by our government.”

The bypass completion is expected in 2016-17.
