SAINT-ANTOINE (GNB) – The Foyer Saint-Antoine nursing home will add 30 new beds as part of a $9.2 million expansion.

"As a government we are helping New Brunswickers take care of their families by investing in nursing home infrastructure," said Social Development Minister Madeline Dubé. "We know that it's important for our seniors to be close to their communities. By expanding Foyer Saint-Antoine, more seniors will be able to access the care and support they need while remaining near their homes and loved ones."

Construction will begin in summer 2015 with completion estimated for summer 2016. The nursing home will have a total of 60 beds when the expansion is finished.

"This project will assist the nursing home with providing more beds and additional space for both residents and staff," Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams said. "As in other communities, it is important for this nursing home to have the infrastructure required to support and provide quality care to the aging population of New Brunswick."

The 30 new nursing home beds are part of the provincial government's 2011-2016 Nursing Home Renovation and Replacement Plan, under which 354 nursing home beds and 704 specialized care beds are being created.
