SAINT-LOUIS DE KENT (GNB) – Construction of the new Villa Maria Nursing Home in Saint-Louis de Kent is nearing completion.

“We are pleased to offer the village of Saint-Louis-de-Kent a new, secure building for their residents,” said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. “We take the care of our seniors very seriously and are pleased to offer them a chance to remain a part of their own community in a stable, welcoming environment.”

The replacement facility – being built by Acadian Construction – will have 60 beds and cost an estimated $14.5 million, which is lower than the original estimate of $21.9 million announced in 2009.

The facility is expected by be ready for occupancy in the fall of 2014.

“This strategic infrastructure will provide new, safe and modern accommodations for residents and staff,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. “It is part of our government’s commitment to meet the needs of the aging population in New Brunswick.”

The Villa Maria project is part of the provincial government's 2011-2016 Nursing Home Renovation and Replacement Plan, under which 354 nursing home beds and 704 specialized care beds are being created.
