FREDERICTON (GNB) — Townsview School will become the name of a new school nearing the end of construction in Woodstock. Premier David Alward made the announcement today.

“This investment is another example of our government’s commitment to a strong education system for all New Brunswick students,” Alward said. “The construction of schools like Townsview is vital to our students’ progress on the journey to reach their full potential.”

The new school will accommodate up to 650 students in kindergarten through Grade 8.When completed this facility will include 29 classrooms; rooms for music, art, science, and technology; project-work areas, a multi-purpose room, a cafetorium and a library.  It will also have two gymnasiums and a daycare facility.

“I am proud that the new Townsview School will be a state-of-the-art facility for the students and community of Woodstock,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Marie Claude Blais. “

Townsview School is being constructed in accordance with the provincial government’s Green Building Policy.

Dora Construction of Dieppe is building the new school under an $18.7-million contract.  The structure is being built on a 6.7-acre property off Elizabeth Street in Woodstock on the former Carleton Manor property on Elizabeth Street.  It will replace the current Centennial Elementary School and accommodate students from Woodstock Middle School.

The school is expected to open by December 2014.
