FREDERICTON (GNB) – The new school nearing the end of construction in Woodstock will be called the Meduxnekeag Consolidated School.

“All young New Brunswickers, including students here in the greater Woodstock area, need and deserve to attend safe and healthy schools where they will receive a quality education for a bright future,” said Premier David Alward said. “At this new school, local students will be able to learn, thrive and excel on their journey to reach their full potential.”

The school will accommodate up to 650 students in kindergarten through Grade 8.  When completed, the facility will include 29 classrooms; rooms for music, art, science, and technology; project-work areas; a multi-purpose room; a cafetorium; a library; two gymnasiums; and an early childhood learning space.

Alward said the capital project is an example of the provincial government’s commitment to strengthen the public education system.

“Building education infrastructure like Meduxnekeag Consolidated School is one way we are strengthening communities for families and making life better for New Brunswickers,” Alward said.

Springhill Construction Ltd. of Fredericton is building Meduxnekeag Consolidated School under a $20.5-million contract. It’s being built on a 22-acre site off the Bull Road at Bedell, which has an abundance of green space. New road construction off Houlton Road will be done to facilitate busing to and from the Bedell site.

Meduxnekeag Consolidated School is expected to open by January, 2015 for elementary school students and September, 2015 for middle school students.
