RENOUS (GNB) – The provincial government will invest more than $15 million in upgrades to infrastructure and equipment at Department of Transportation and Infrastructure depots and district garages across the province.
“Your government recognizes that maintaining and improving our infrastructure keeps our economy moving forward and keeps our roads safe,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser.
About $11 million will be invested in 47 new plows, which will be distributed across the province. About $4 million will be invested in building upgrades.
Mid-life upgrades are planned for depots in Pokemouche, Renous, Indian Mountain, Saint-Léonard, Fredericton Junction, Plaster Rock and Hillsborough.
Roofs will be replaced at the Acadieville, Memramcook and Parkindale depots. A boiler will be replaced at the Riverside-Albert maintenance depot. Site drainage will be improved at the Sackville maintenance depots. Heating system upgrades will be done at the Shediac and Chipman maintenance depots, and a new oil-water separator will be installed at the Canterbury maintenance depot.
Security and mechanical upgrades, as well as improvements to building or site drainage, will take place at the Bathurst, Miramichi and St. Stephen district garages.
“Keeping our roads and highways clear and safe during the winter months has always been a top priority for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure,” said Fraser. “This will help ensure safety of all motorists in the province.”
The department’s $688.2-million capital budget reflects the government’s priority of investing strategically in its buildings, highways and bridges. Strategic investments in infrastructure are a key component of the multi-year New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, the government’s framework for growing the economy and creating jobs.
