RIVERSIDE-ALBERT (GNB) – The federal, provincial and municipal governments are combining to invest more than $24,000 in the installation of water sampling stations in Riverside-Albert.
“Your government understands the importance of water infrastructure maintenance for the good and health of all New Brunswickers,” said Finance Minister Cathy Rogers. “When we invest strategically, we maximize the return on every dollar invested.”
Rogers spoke on behalf of Environment and Local Government Minister Andrew Harvey.
The two sampling stations being installed on the municipal water distribution system will be used to monitor water quality, helping to ensure that residents have access to safe and clean drinking water.
“By investing in water and wastewater infrastructure, the Government of Canada is supporting Canada’s ongoing transition to a clean, sustainable-growth economy and creating well-paying middle-class jobs,” said Fundy Royal MP Alaina Lockhart. “The improvements to Riverside-Albert’s water infrastructure will ensure residents continue to have access to safe drinking water, while also protecting the local environment.”
Lockhart attended for federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister François-Philippe Champagne.
Funding for the project comes from the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund. The provincial government is investing up to $5,000 and the federal government is contributing up to $11,000. The Village of Riverside-Albert will provide the balance of funding.
The fund is designed to improve the safety and quality of water while supporting a clean economy.
“As a result of the water and wastewater partnership with the federal and provincial governments, the Village of Riverside-Albert was able to install new water lines and laterals on King Street,” said Mayor Jim Campbell. “This replacement of aging water lines resulted in a significant reduction in water consumption due to the old failing water lines leakage.”
This investment is part of a federal-provincial agreement on clean water and wastewater.
