FREDERICTION (GNB) – Provincial representatives from the Saint John region, including Premier Blaine Higgs and Environment and Local Government Minister Jeff Carr, met with Saint John’s mayor and council this week to continue the important discussion around helping the city become more viable.
A three-part plan to support the city, entitled Sustaining Saint John, was made public in July. It provides short and long-term support to help the city achieve financial sustainability and success. As well, it paves the way for municipal reforms aimed at benefiting communities throughout New Brunswick.
After several discussions between municipal and provincial representatives in recent weeks, the province has updated and re-endorsed the plan based on feedback from council and the public.
“We have listened and we are working together to ensure the plan reflects the hard work done by all the parties involved,’’ said Carr. “We believe in Saint John and we know that by working together, we can achieve our common goals.”
The plan, which has been approved by the provincial government, is expected to be voted on Monday night by Saint John Common Council.
