BATHURST (CNB) – Ronald Gauvin, 57, of Allardville was fined $15,200 and sentenced to serve 42 days in jail on charges related to the Fish and Wildlife Act. He was sentenced on Thursday, Aug. 19, by Provincial Court Judge Ronald Leblanc.
Gauvin was charged with two counts of hunting moose out of season, two counts of selling moose meat, one count of possessing an illegal deer and one count of possessing an illegal bear.
Gauvin came to the attention of Department of Natural Resources conservation officers during a two-year joint forces operation with their Nova Scotia counterparts. Operation Millstream targeted the illegal sale and harvest of moose in the Bathurst area.
Neil Jacobson, acting provincial conservation manager with the department, said local conservation officers were assisted by information from the public.
“Conservation officers are committed to targeting illegal activities that have an impact on the natural resources of our province,” he said. “We encourage anyone with information relating to these activities to contact their local department office or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).”
