FREDERICTON (GNB) – Stakeholder groups and the public are invited to participate in a review of the Petroleum Products Pricing Act.

As part of its commitments under the New Brunswick Energy Blueprint, the provincial government is seeking input from interested parties to ensure the continued effectiveness of the act and its regulations in reducing the daily volatility in retail petroleum prices as well as providing the lowest possible price to consumers without jeopardizing the supply of products.

"We encourage everyone with an interest in petroleum products pricing to provide feedback on this initiative," said Energy and Mines Minister Craig Leonard. "This act was brought forward in 2006 and our government wants to ensure it continues to serve its policy objectives now and in the future."

As part of this exercise, the provincial government will be directly engaging with stakeholder groups to gather feedback and experiences. The public is also invited to consult the discussion paper pertaining to the review and submit their comments by email.

"The prices of petroleum products touch all New Brunswickers in one way or another," said Leonard. "This review is simply one more way in which our government is seeking to streamline and improve regulations, thereby ensuring that New Brunswickers can continue to enjoy low and stable petroleum product prices framed by effective regulation."

Those interested in submitting comments as part of this review can do so until June 6.
