GRAND TRACADIE-SHEILA (GNB) – On July 1, the Town of Tracadie-Sheila will become part of the regional municipality of Grand Tracadie-Sheila. With this new structure residents should be aware that burning on forest land or conducting an industrial operation will fall under the jurisdiction of the Forest Fires Act, during fire season.

Requirements under the act include:

●    Burning of a Category 1 fire is only allowed on low fire hazard days. A Category 1 fire is an open fire started or ignited in or within 60 metres of forest land to burn no more than four piles of untreated woody material, each of which does not exceed three metres in width, three metres in length and two metres in height. ●    Burning of a Category 2, 3 or 4 fire is only allowed under permit. Conducting an industrial operation upon forest land requires a valid and subsisting work permit. A work permit can be obtained at any Department of Natural Resources office.

Industrial operation includes:

●    any work within or upon forest land in which two or more persons are engaged, or

●    where mechanical equipment is used, any work within or upon forest land in which one or more persons are engaged.
