FREDERICTON (GNB) – Another group of New Brunswick firefighters is travelling to British Columbia to help battle forest fires in that province.
An Atlantic Canadian crew of 16 firefighters from New Brunswick and five from Newfoundland and Labrador are headed to Kamloops on Thursday.
“This is the 13th mobilization from New Brunswick this summer,” said Energy and Resource Development Minister Rick Doucet. “As always, we are happy to help our neighbours in the west who are dealing with the terrible fire situation in their province.”
Twelve firefighters who mobilized on Aug. 22 return to New Brunswick this week.
New Brunswick is a member of the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, which helps co-ordinate mutual aid among provinces and often co-ordinates the sharing of resources with the United States and other countries. So far this year, 67 firefighters have been deployed to combat out-of-province forest fires. Last year, New Brunswick sent 77 firefighters to provide assistance in Alberta and Nova Scotia.
