FREDERICTON (GNB) – Eight appointments to the board of directors of the New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation were announced today by Social Development Minister Sue Stultz.  

"I am pleased these individuals have accepted to be board members of the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation," said Stultz. "They bring experience to the task of implementing the actions contained in Overcoming Poverty: The New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Plan. I also thank the outgoing members for the great job they did while they were on the board."

The new appointments are:

●    Francine Landry (Saint-Jacques);
●    July Synnott (Good Wind Mill);
●    Angel Michaud (Perth-Andover); and
●    Beverly Wilcox (Bathurst).

The reappointed members are:  

●    Derek Oland (New River Beach);
●    Brenda Murphy (Grand Bay-Westfield);
●    Ginette Arsenault (Fredericton); and
●    Jacques-François Levesque (Grand Falls).

The appointments are effective June 17 and are for a four-year term.

"We are pleased these people have accepted the challenge of serving on the board," said Léo-Paul Pinet, president of the corporation. "I look forward to the array of perspectives and contributions they will bring to the process of addressing poverty in New Brunswick."  

The corporation consists of a 22-member board of directors representing government, business, community non-profit organizations and people who have experienced poverty. It oversees and co-ordinates implementation of Overcoming Poverty Together: The New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Plan.

Biographical notes on the new members

Francine Landry (Business)

Landry is involved in economic and community development and in tourism and cultural activities locally and provincially.

July Synnott (Non-profit)

Synnott is employed at the Youth Centre in Bathurst as a support agent in community development.  She is co-ordinating and organizing services in low-income communities. Synnott has worked in individual, group and community intervention, personal development and crisis management.

Angel Michaud (Persons who experienced or are living in poverty)

Michaud is a single mother with five children who is attending an adult literacy program. She has worked at local businesses and as senior personal worker. Michaud is a board member of the Carleton-Victoria Community Inclusion Network.  

Beverly Wilcox (Persons who experienced or are living in poverty)

Wilcox manages the Upper Dawson Community Centre administration council, with which she has been involved during the last 10 years. She has experience with and knowledge of poverty.
