FREDERICTON (GNB) – A summary of feedback from the more than 1,500 participants who participated in the Opportunities Summits is now available online.
“The summits were a valuable opportunity for representatives from different sectors to work with the provincial government and each other to identify challenges and solutions to job creation and economic growth,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry. “By working together, we will create economic growth in New Brunswick.”
Throughout the summits, recurring themes emerged on ways to grow a highly skilled workforce, expand innovation capacity, increase access to capital for the private sector, increase investment in strategic infrastructure and develop a more nimble government and policy environment. The opportunities identified are being reviewed and evaluated for development as part of an economic action plan for the province.
Led by various government departments and the Jobs Board Secretariat, 22 Opportunities Summits were held in 15 communities between September 2015 and April 2016.
The summits brought together businesspeople, industry associations, startups, First Nations, non-profits, academia, youth, artists, unions, advocacy groups, and different levels of government to identify new prospects for creating jobs and economic growth opportunities in the province.
“These summits were an important component in the development of an economic action plan, and we thank all participants for their valuable contributions,” said Landry. “We look forward to continuously working with our partners to grow New Brunswick’s economy, create jobs here at home, and move our province forward.”
