FREDERICTON (GNB) – A motion was passed unanimously in the legislative assembly today naming the third Saturday in September annually as Becca Schofield Day. The motion, brought forward by the Official Opposition, was in recognition of the 17-year-old’s tireless efforts to encourage acts of kindness and goodwill.

The motion also encouraged New Brunswickers to fulfill the Riverview teen’s wishes by performing acts of kindness for others and by sharing her message of hope and compassion on social media by posting it to #BeccaToldMeTo.

“Becca is an amazing person who has shown us that acts of kindness, big or small, can make a real difference,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “The example she has set makes the people of this province proud to be New Brunswickers and Canadians.”

When Schofield learned she had terminal brain cancer, she made a bucket list. One of the items on that list was to persuade people everywhere to perform an act of kindness then share it through social media. The idea quickly caught on with people around the world sharing their acts of kindness, which in turn, inspired even more people to participate.
