FREDERICTON (GNB) – The electoral district of Oromocto-Lincoln will now be known as Oromocto-Lincoln-Fredericton.

“Your government believes it is important for a riding name to be inclusive of the area that it represents,” said deputy premier Stephen Horsman. “This name change better reflects the geography and area represented.”

Electoral district names are usually geographic in nature and are chosen to represent the community or region within the district’s boundaries. A district’s name can be changed between traditional boundary reviews to ensure the name reflects a community’s interests and identity.

The name change is a result of a request by Oromocto-Lincoln MLA Jody Carr. This will be the fourth riding to have its name changed to make it more representative of its regions since the release of the final report of the Electoral Boundaries Commission in 2014.

Elections New Brunswick has been advised of the district’s name change and is preparing updates to its digital and print maps. The Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick’s website and seating plan will also be updated to reflect the new name.
