POKEMOUCHE (CNB) - Provincial and territorial members of the Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie are attending activities surrounding the official opening of Espace neuf in Pokemouche as part of the World Acadian Congress, Minister of Wellness, Culture and Sport Hédard Albert said today.
Albert, who is also minister responsible for the Francophonie, said he was pleased that so many of his Canadian counterparts had accepted an invitation to come to the Acadian Peninsula for the World Acadian Congress. Delegations from the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and Nova Scotia took part in activities in Caraquet on Aug. 15.
"As minister responsible for the Francophonie in New Brunswick, I have had the privilege of working with my colleagues in the conference for a few years to foster an accepting and dynamic Canadian Francophonie," said Albert. "Today I am happy to be able to share all the vitality of the Acadian people in our part of the country."
Albert particularly stressed the presence of his Manitoba counterpart, Greg Selinger, with whom discussions have been held to strengthen the memorandum of agreement between New Brunswick and Manitoba. This memorandum provides for co-operation in the fields of culture, education, and international relations, among others.
"I believe that through this type of co-operation, we are contributing to the well-being of our respective residents, as well as improving services offered in French," said Albert.
The Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie will have a booth in the Pavillon des Alliances at Espace neuf from Aug. 16 to 22.
