FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswick business, innovation and hospitality will be showcased as European Union Heads of Mission make their first official visit to the province.

The visit, taking place from May 30 to June 2, will highlight the importance of the province in European Union-Canada relations, particularly in the context of the European Union-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.

“To create jobs in New Brunswick, we need to further develop our export markets,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “This visit provides New Brunswick businesses, and our province as a whole, an opportunity to exhibit the exciting and innovative things being done here.”

This is the first visit for the Heads of Mission, which include European Union Ambassador Marie-Anne Coninsx and ambassadors and a high commissioner of European Union member states, outside of Canada’s largest provinces, Ontario and Quebec.

“On behalf of all New Brunswickers, I welcome the European Heads of Mission to New Brunswick,” said Gallant. “Not only is this visit an exciting opportunity for our province and businesses to show what we can do, but it also provides us the opportunity to establish new business relationships and stronger ties with the European Union to help us create jobs here in New Brunswick.”

Highlights of the visit include meetings and industrial visits with New Brunswick businesses in Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton, and an exchange of views with the premier and several ministers focusing on economic and business issues.

The Heads of Mission are also scheduled to participate in the Export Awards Gala which is being held in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Export Europe Accelerator Conference in Moncton.
