FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued today by Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet, who is also the minister responsible for Trade Policy:

I was pleased to have joined my colleagues from 13 provinces and territories this week at the Internal Trade Ministers’ meeting in Toronto. We are making significant progress in modernizing the two-decade-old Agreement on Internal Trade.

Improving trade opportunities for New Brunswick companies is an essential element in strengthening our province’s economy. Their successes benefit our workers and their families and help move the province forward. Strengthening Canada’s economic union through a revitalized internal trade agreement will help us on that path.

I assure you that our government is fully engaged in this process and we are looking forward to the successful conclusion of negotiations on a new agreement.
