MONCTON (GNB) – The third Forum international jeunesse et emplois verts (international youth and green jobs forum) officially ended today during a ceremony held at the Université de Moncton.

“Our government is proud to have had the opportunity to host this major event of La Francophonie here in New Brunswick,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also minister responsible for La Francophonie. “These young people will leave here with many tools and tips, and a network of contacts with other young entrepreneurs and experts from around the world. This third edition of the forum has been a success for the International Organization of La Francophonie and our province, and especially for these young inspiring leaders.”

Over the last four days, the young exhibitors had the chance to attend conferences, roundtables and dialogues on topics related to the green economy, and to present their projects in the following areas:

  • sustainable agriculture;
  • green energy;
  • information and communications technologies in support of sustainable development;
  • sustainable housing;
  • cleanup, waste management and recycling;
  • technologies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change; and
  • social and co-operative entrepreneurship.

“Participating in the forum was a great experience which allowed us to exchange ideas with other young francophones from around the world, present our green projects and build up an important network of contacts,” said Jean-Louis Somse Da, a forum participant from New Brunswick.

This forum is a unique opportunity for French-speaking nations to lay the foundations for sustainable economic growth by building a new development model, that of the green economy.

The most promising projects were unveiled and will be presented online. They will receive technical and financial support for their implementation. Ten bursaries from 3000 to 5000 euros (the equivalent of C$4350 to C$7250) will be awarded to young entrepreneurs once their business plan has been completed and validated.

The third international youth and green jobs forum was held in Moncton from June 20 to June 24 with the theme of Emplois verts : Un avenir pour les jeunes francophones (green jobs: a future for young francophones).
