FREDERICTON (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant will attend a first ministers’ meeting in Ottawa this week to discuss the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change. He will also meet with several federal cabinet ministers on priority files.

Gallant will participate in discussions about the framework and how provincial, territorial and federal governments can work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enable sustainable economic growth.

“Climate change is the most significant challenge of our generation,” said Gallant. “We must work together as Canadians to combat climate change in a way that will spur economic growth. Transitioning to a low-carbon economy is an important opportunity that we must seize.”

“We will ensure that New Brunswick’s plan to combat climate change respects our economic challenges and opportunities,” Gallant added.

In addition to items on the agenda at the first ministers’ meeting, the premier will also get an opportunity to discuss other matters of importance to New Brunswickers, such as health care, with his counterparts from across the country.

“Health care is crucial to the quality of life of New Brunswickers,” said Gallant. “I look forward to discussing with the minister of health, Jane Philpott, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau how we can work together to improve health care and senior care in New Brunswick.”

Gallant will also meet with federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister Amarjeet Sohi; federal Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains; and National Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan.
