FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is encouraging New Brunswick residents to nominate individuals who have demonstrated individual excellence for the Order of New Brunswick.

The honour is awarded to celebrate the achievements of current or former outstanding New Brunswickers who have contributed to the economic, cultural and social fabric of the province. The deadline for nominations is April 15.

“2017 is a significant year for New Brunswick and for Canada,” said Lt.-Gov. Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, chancellor of the order. “Canada’s confederation happened 150 years ago, in part, because of hardworking New Brunswickers. Individuals in all corners of our province continue to make amazing contributions. People working for a better province should be nominated for the Order of New Brunswick.”

As Canada celebrates the 150th anniversary of confederation, the order will be investing its 150th member. As one of the founding provinces that formed confederation, New Brunswick helped shape the Canada of today. This year’s campaign will also focus on celebrating the previous recipients and encouraging them to be champions for New Brunswick’s celebrations for Canada 150.

“Your government values the contributions and actions that New Brunswickers have made to our economy, education and health-care systems,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “By nominating an outstanding individual for the Order of New Brunswick, you are helping to bring recognition to the remarkable accomplishments they have made to help shape our economy and social fabric.”

More information on the order, biographical notes on members, and how to nominate an individual is available online.

The 2017 recipients will be announced on New Brunswick Day.
