FREDERICTON (GNB) – Throughout September, members of the public may visit any of the province’s 63 public libraries and use their library card to sign out one free admission pass to Kings Landing Historical Settlement.

The pass will be valid for one visit in September. For admission to Kings Landing, simply show your library card and the pass.

“The overwhelming success of last year’s pilot project demonstrated the need for this initiative to be expanded,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault. “Last year, passes were only available at libraries in the York Library Region. However, staff received requests from all regions of the province. We hope that by making passes available in all public libraries, even more families will be able to take advantage of the opportunity to spend some quality time together while enjoying a first-rate attraction like the Kings Landing Historical Settlement.”

The aim of the partnership is to increase awareness of the ever-expanding free services offered in public libraries and to provide patrons with an opportunity to visit Kings Landing; a living history museum which recreates the daily lives of New Brunswickers in the 1800s. Last year, more than 700 free admission passes were signed out through 14 participating public libraries.

“I am pleased that this promotion will be taking place again this year,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “Through this initiative, New Brunswickers will be given the opportunity to experience this great institution’s interpretation of our history and will feel a greater sense of who we are and where we have come from.”

“We were thrilled with the results of last year’s partnership,” said Kevin Cormier, executive director at Kings Landing. “This year’s program will allow us to reach a wider audience, since every New Brunswicker with a library card will have the opportunity to visit Kings Landing to experience and celebrate New Brunswick’s history.”

More information about libraries and instructions on how to obtain a free library card is available online and at all public libraries.
