SACKVILLE (GNB) – The provincial government hosted 45 participants on Monday at a follow-up Opportunities Summit which focused on enhancing training and employment opportunities for New Brunswick youth.

“We know how important creating jobs, growing the economy, and securing health care and education are to New Brunswickers and their families,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “In partnership with stakeholders, we are committed to creating the right conditions to help our province’s youth develop skills and find jobs so they can live, work and enjoy a good quality of life in New Brunswick.”

The summit drew representatives from across the province including from the Centre for Research on Youth at Risk, La Fédération des jeunes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick, the Federation of Labour and the Native Friendship Centre.

‘I am really encouraged to see the diversity of stakeholders invited to participate,” said Rachel Mathis, CEO of Invigorate Leaders and a student at Mount Allison University. “It is clear that the goal of accountability was set, and met by the government.”

Discussions focused on the actions taken over the past year, developing plans for future action, and considering new opportunities for youth in New Brunswick.

“I liked the discussions at the roundtables and how different sectors were represented here,” said François Poirier, chair of the Fédération des jeunes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick. “I liked the speeches and the energy at the event.”

Today’s event was a follow-up from a series of Opportunities Summits held last year around the province to identify new prospects for creating jobs and economic growth.
