FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Summer Employment Experience Development (SEED) program is underway, with 1,600 students participating.

“Your government understands that creating jobs and growing the economy are important to New Brunswickers,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault. “With the summer underway, it is encouraging to see so many young people taking advantage of the SEED program in a variety of sectors to gain valuable hands-on experience that will last a lifetime.”

The placements include university, college and high school students. About 68 per cent of students in the program are working for non-profit organizations, nine per cent have placements with municipalities, and 22 per cent are with the private sector; the latter two groups were responsible for contributing 50 per cent of the wages of students they hired.

All 1,600 placements have been filled and will be completed by Friday, Sept. 8.
