FREDERICTON (GNB) – Employer applications for the Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) program will be accepted between Jan. 11 and Feb. 19, 2021.

“The SEED program provides young people with on-the-job learning and supports community labour force needs over the summer,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Trevor Holder. “The program is crucial for building valuable connections between students and employers.”

Non-profit groups, First Nations and municipalities may access the applications and other information on the program online at www.NBSEED.ca. A SEED placement can last up to 12 weeks and must take place between April 26 and the Labour Day weekend in September.

Applications submitted by employers will be evaluated for eligibility by staff at the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour. MLAs will provide input and recommendations based on the priorities of their electoral districts.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic flexibility will be offered to participants again this year to ensure as many jobs are filled as possible. Flexibility such as start dates, schedules and hours will all be taken into consideration.

Employers approved for SEED funding will be notified by March 31 and their job postings will be listed online. Students seeking employment may apply directly to employers using the contact information in each job posting.

Students are also encouraged to apply for federally funded summer jobs, and to look at employment opportunities on NBjobs.ca.

Any employer having human resource challenges, including in recruiting workers, is encouraged to contact to their regional WorkingNB office and speak to a workforce consultant.
