FREDERICTON (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant issued the following statement regarding this morning’s events in Fredericton:

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that unfolded in Fredericton this morning.

To the families and friends of the victims, on behalf of all New Brunswickers, I offer my deepest condolences for your loss.

We would also like to express our deepest condolences to the colleagues of the officers who were killed in the line of duty while protecting the people of Fredericton.

Our thoughts are with the courageous women and men on the front lines with the Fredericton Police Force as they grieve the loss of two of their colleagues. All flags are being lowered to half-mast to pay tribute to these brave officers. This tragic event reminds us of the lengths first responders regularly go to in responding to the needs of New Brunswickers. The incredible professionalism and commitment of our local first responders to serve and protect the people of Fredericton during difficult circumstances is to be commended. Thank you.

This was a senseless tragedy, the impacts of which will be felt throughout the entire province.
