FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following is a message from Premier Blaine Higgs on the occasion of Remembrance Day, Sunday, Nov. 11. Higgs will participate in the Remembrance Day ceremony at the qplex in Quispamsis:
Each year on Nov. 11, New Brunswickers come together to pay tribute to the men and women who have valiantly served our country. We gather at cenotaphs and in community halls to honour those who sacrificed so much to protect our rights and our freedom.
This Remembrance Day marks 100 years since the signing of the armistice declaring an end to the First World War. Since that time, Canadians have continued to serve in conflicts around the world, standing up for what we believe is right.
It is important to take time on Nov. 11 to remember the courage and sacrifice of our veterans and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, many who continue to bravely serve our country. Even beyond our own borders, our Canadian servicemen and servicewomen, including many New Brunswickers, are helping to bring peace and stability to other parts of the world.
Without them, we would not have the country we have today; the peaceful, welcoming country we are so proud to call home.
If you are able, please attend one of the many Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place across our province. If you are not, consider pausing for a moment of silence at 11 a.m.
Their sacrifice must always be remembered.
