FREDERICTON (GNB) – Department of Public Safety enforcement officers will be on the lookout for a variety of safety violations as New Brunswick takes part in the annual International Roadcheck program, June 4-6.
International Roadcheck 2019 is a 72-hour inspection event sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. This will be the 32nd year for the event, which is held throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico.
“We are proud to participate in this annual event,” said Public Safety Minister Carl Urquhart. “International Roadcheck is an important opportunity to highlight the importance of ensuring safety on our highways. Together, we all have a role to play in ensuring the safety of the public.”
Enforcement activities will take place throughout the province, with special attention given to the Salisbury inspection facilities near Moncton. The Salisbury facilities will remain open for the full 72 hours of the event. Public Safety enforcement officers and staff from partner agencies will be on hand to carry out inspections. In addition to commercial vehicle inspections, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has asked participating jurisdictions to focus on adherence to the North American Cargo Securement Standard.
Other participating agencies include the RCMP, municipal police forces, Transport Canada Dangerous Goods Directorate, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, the Department of Finance and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. As in the past, New Brunswick will partner with bordering provinces Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Quebec.
