FREDERICTON (CNB) – The provincial government is joining the Capital City Boat Club to continue improvements to the Regent Street wharf in Fredericton.

Environment Minister Rick Miles made the announcement. He was joined by Finance Minister Greg Byrne and Reid Shepherd, commodore of the Capital City Boat Club.

“This is an important community infrastructure project for Fredericton, the merchants and businesses in downtown Fredericton,” said Miles. “Our investment will help generate employment and tourism, which are key to growing our economy.”

Miles spoke on behalf of Business New Brunswick Minister Victor Boudreau, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The provincial government is investing $70,000 in Phase II of the project, which entails adding 72 m (240 ft.) of floating docks to provide additional visitor space. These improvements are expected to attract increased boat traffic and visitors to the area.

“The Capital City Boat Club is pleased with the assistance being provided by the Province of New Brunswick and commends Minister Miles for his commitment to waterfront development,” said Shepherd. “The Regent Street Wharf is an integral part of the city's downtown, and the Capital City Boat Club looks forward to partnering with the province in this initiative.”
