EEL RIVER CROSSING (CNB) – The provincial government is making an investment to make improvements at the Island Lake Club near Balmoral.

Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Northern New Brunswick Initiative, made the announcement today.

"This is an important community infrastructure project for Balmoral, Dalhousie and Restigouche east," said Arseneault. "Our investment will help generate employment and tourism, which are key to growing our economy and bringing our kids back home to New Brunswick. Enhancing the visitor experience through investments in tourist infrastructure is an objective identified in An Action Plan for Self-Sufficiency in Northern New Brunswick 2010-2013."

Under the Northern Economic Development Fund, the provincial government is investing $300,000 in infrastructure improvements to Island Lake. The project includes: modernization and upgrades of the camp's cottages and renovations to the main chalet.

“This project will enable us to respond better to the needs of our growing clientele and to operate over four seasons,” said Charles Doucet, president, Island Lake Club.
