BERESFORD (CNB) - A new boardwalk was officially opened today in Beresford.

"This boardwalk is a welcome addition to the existing trail system in Beresford," said Greg Davis, legislative secretary to the minister of Economic Development. "Investing in these types of infrastructure projects will help attract visitors to the region and promote active living lifestyles."

The 300-metre boardwalk runs east from Principale Street along the Millstream River into a wooded path and along salt marshes where the endangered maritime ringlet butterfly may be seen every summer. The boardwalk is an addition to a 1.6 -kilometre trail system within the town and is the second of its kind, with the original boardwalk located at the Beresford Beach Park.

"We are very pleased to see the large number of people using the new boardwalk as is the case with all our trails," said Beresford Mayor Raoul Charest. "The new addition has increased the beauty of our town and given added value to both residents and visitors alike."

The provincial government, through the Regional Development Corporation, invested $500,000 in the project.
