CAMPBELLTON (CNB) – The provincial and federal governments joined the City of Campbellton in announcing a combined investment of $1,388,359 in the water and wastewater system in the municipality.

"The water lines and water services in this district are more than 99 years old,” said Bernard Valcourt, minister of state for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and La Francophonie. “They no longer meet modern needs and requirements. This investment will have a direct impact on the quality of services offered to citizens and businesses in Campbellton, not to mention provide better environmental protection. In addition, this project will create economic activity in Campbellton this summer, once the work begins."

Valcourt was speaking on behalf of Denis LeBel, federal minister of transport, infrastructure and communities.

"The citizens of the City of Campbellton and city council would like to take this opportunity to thank Minister Bernard Valcourt, Minister Paul Robichaud and certainly MLA Greg Davis for the funding, which will improve our downtown business community," said Campbellton Mayor Bruce MacIntosh.

The project consists of replacing the water system and the wastewater collection system along Roseberry Street, between Subway and Andrew streets.
