GRAND FALLS (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $50,000 to support an expansion at the Grand Falls Farmers' Market.

"Farmers' markets are an essential part of community life in New Brunswick and provide opportunities for our local farmers and artisans to showcase and sell their products," said Premier David Alward. "Promoting healthy living is an important part of our plan to rebuild New Brunswick, and this investment will assist the farmers' market to provide greater access to healthy, locally grown food."

The Regional Development Corporation is providing the funding, which will be used toward Phase II of the project. It consists of building a new food court section at the facility.

"The Town of Grand Falls is appreciative for the provincial contribution toward the enhancements to the municipal farmers’ market," said Grand Falls Mayor Richard Keeley. "This investment, and funding from other sources including the Town of Grand Falls, will be applied toward the establishment of a food court, seating area and kitchen within the market at a cost of approximately $150,000. The new food court and kitchen were named Papa Joe's in honour of the late Joe Savage, a well-known area farmer and businessman."
