CAMPOBELLO ISLAND (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $15,000 towards upgrading the multipurpose field on Campobello Island.

"Our government is proud to invest in important community infrastructure projects that promote healthy living for residents and families, and that make our communities even better places in which to live and raise a family," said Charlotte-Campobello MLA Curtis Malloch.

Malloch attended the official opening of the multipurpose field for Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

"We thank all those who helped us financially support this project from the local service district, our MLA Curtis Malloch and the provincial government," said Sandra Sawtelle, co-chair of the Campobello Island Consolidated School Improvement Planning Committee. “We thank our families, as well as a few good community members, for standing by us, supporting us and volunteering their time for this project because without you this project would not have happened."

Funding from the Regional Development Corporation under the Family and Youth Capital Assistance Program was used to help the committee refurbish the community field.

The program gives community groups, non-profit organizations, local service districts and municipalities an opportunity to apply for funding for eligible capital costs for youth- and family-related projects such as playgrounds, sports/recreational facilities, community centres and community equipment.
