SACKVILLE (GNB) – The provincial government has invested $25,000 towards upgrading the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 in Sackville through the installation of an accessibility lift.

“Our government is proud to invest in infrastructure projects that help improve our Royal Canadian Legion branches,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp.

Olscamp attended today’s official dedication ceremony on behalf of Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

Funding provided by the corporation's Family and Youth Capital Assistance Program helped support the installation of the lift.

“The accessibility lift will positively impact the functional utilization of the entire floor space of our legion branch while providing unhindered access to events on our second floor for many of our members, and the public at large, who have mobility issues,” said Steve Epworth, second vice-president of the branch.

The program gives community groups, non-profit organizations, local service districts and municipalities an opportunity to apply for funding for eligible capital costs for youth- and family-related projects such as playgrounds, sports/recreational facilities, community centres and community equipment.
