FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $350,000 towards the establishment of a residential hospice facility in Fredericton.

“This facility is most welcome in our community,” said Energy and Mines Minister Craig Leonard. “Our investment will be used to assist in the establishment of a facility providing palliative care to patients who can no longer stay home through the end of life.”

Leonard made the announcement today at the official launch of the Hospice House Capital Campaign, on behalf of Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The funding will help Hospice Fredericton transform the former Rosary Hall building into a 10-bed residential facility.

“We are pleased that the province is contributing to this project because it demonstrates their recognition of the importance of a public/private partnership as well as their support of a very important addition to the region's healthcare infrastructure,” said Daryl Branscombe, president of Hospice Fredericton. “By working together, we are able to continue to provide essential services to palliative care patients at home or in a residential hospice, which is a home away from home.”

Hospice Fredericton is a community based program providing comfort and support to individuals and families facing advanced illness, death and bereavement.
