ST. MARTINS (GNB) - The residents of St. Martins joined provincial government officials today to mark the official opening of the renovated Quaco Museum.

"Community museums and historical societies provide great venues to learn about and share aspects of our past with visitors and New Brunswickers as well as contributing to an enhanced quality of life," said Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General Bruce Northrup. "Our investment in the museum will enhance the visitor experience."

Northrup attended the event on behalf of Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

A total investment of $36,925 was provided to the Quaco Historical and Library Society to carry out renovations, including the addition of a community multi-purpose room and a new roof as well as renovations to the museum's front portion.

"Financial commitments such as these are vital to the survival and success of small community museums such as ours," said president of the Quaco Historical and Library Society Jacqueline Bartlett. "We are grateful to all of our donors for their financial support and their untold hours of time and teaching over the years."
