SALMON RIVER (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments today announced a joint contribution of $22.8 million to support the completion of the Fundy Trail Parkway.

“Completing the Fundy Trail Parkway has been a key part of our government's plan to create jobs and build a stronger tourism industry in New Brunswick communities since day one,” said Premier David Alward. “Our government's landmark investment will provide the foundation of new growth and employment for generations, and help visitors experience the Bay of Fundy like never before by connecting destinations from St. Martins to Alma.”

The project will provide funding to complete the remaining 14 kilometre section of the Fundy Trail Parkway, from Parking Lot 11 to a proposed east entry kiosk in the McCumber Brook area.  The completion of the trail will link the parkway to a provincial access road providing strategic connections to Fundy National Park and Sussex.

“Home to Fundy National Park, Cape Enrage and the Hopewell Rocks, the Bay of Fundy is one of Canada's premiere tourism destinations,” said Rob Moore, minister of state for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. “Our government is pleased to support the completion of the Fundy Trail Parkway, a major sustainable tourism product and international attraction that contributes significantly to the local economy. Our investment will increase tourism in the region, create jobs and generate economic growth in surrounding communities.”

The Fundy Trail Authority Inc. is targeting spring 2018 for completion.

“The $22.8 million funding announcement today for the completion of the Fundy Trail Parkway, allows for a sustainable tourism, Must See  World Class Signature Destination, while completing the missing link among the Bay of Fundy’s four top natural attractions,” said Harley Tingley, president of the Fundy Trail Development Authority.
