BERTRAND (GNB) – Village Historique Acadien has received a $300,000 increase in operational funding.

In addition, Les Amis du Village Historique Acadien Inc. will receive $17, 360 to implement a new redesign and concept to welcome visitors to the village.

“This increased funding will help the village continue to flourish, deliver on its important mandate, and provide valuable services to New Brunswickers and visitors,” said Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud, who spoke on behalf of Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder.

As part of the renewed cultural policy Creative Futures, the provincial government will direct an additional $1.3 million for New Brunswick’s five key cultural institutions.

Creative Futures is the result of a multi-year renewal process that focused on the four areas of action identified in the 2002 policy:

  • culture’s role in our everyday lives, including education, access to culture and cultural awareness;
  • the role of artists, arts organizations and arts infrastructure in creating a vibrant cultural sector;
  • conserving our collective heritage and ensuring quality design and planning; and
  • the role of culture in economic development.

Village Historique Acadien has been officially open since 1977. The site aims to inform and educate people from all over the world about the daily life of Acadians between 1770 and 1949, through the interpretation of their material and real-life history in a re-created environment.
