EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – The provincial government is contributing $30,000 to a community infrastructure project in Edmundston.

“Investing in community infrastructure projects that promote a healthy lifestyle is a key element of our government’s plan,” said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. “The community park will be an important part of daily life in the greater Madawaska region, and this investment will improve the quality of life for families and residents.”

Dubé was speaking on behalf of Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“For our community, this park fills a gap in this section of the city," said Edmundston Mayor Cyrille Simard. “A facility like this will inject new life into this neighbourhood and will provide a peaceful, beautiful space where people can get together. We are pleased to have been able to contribute to it, with the support of the provincial government and the Kinsmen Club, and with a gift of land from the Irving Company. It is a great example of co-operation.”

The new Kinsmen Park will be divided into four areas: a playground, a community garden, a picnic area, and a rest area near the new cycling trail.

The investment was made possible through the Regional Development Corporation’s Family and Youth Capital Assistance Program, which enables community groups, non-profit organizations, local service districts, and municipalities to obtain funding for youth and family-related projects such as playgrounds, sports or recreational facilities, community centres, and community equipment.
